Answer: Honed finish slate tiles create a soft, matte, appearance that is more suited to casual, comfortable environments than a formal, polished surface.

Answer: The different types of slate stone surface finishes:

.Natural cleft slate stone: it has a slightly uneven surface that is still usable for flooring, the back of the slate tile is also has natural cleft. The price of this finish is relatively low.
.Calibrated (gauged) slate stone: thickness of the slate tile is maintained by machine or saw; in this case the thickness is calibrated (maintained) specifically at 10 / 12 / 13 / 15 mm etc. as per order.
.Honed slate Stone: grinding and sanding produces a smooth, yet not glossy finish. This is best for low maintenance, high traffic applications.
.Tumbled slate stone: tumbling slate stones in a solution of sand, water in a tumbler, gives an old world, weathered look.
.Leather slate stone: leathered slate tiles also have the textured appearance but in a mild manner, when diamond-tipped brushes are run on top of HONED slate tile, then we get the leathered surface. This finish gives the stone a suede looks and feel. This texture is smooth and slip-resistant.
.Brushed slate stone: brushed slate tiles have a unique natural riven surface; this surface type can be achieved by applying wire brushed through a proper machine on the natural cleft surface. By this process the slate tiles comes in aged look and it is best for modern or more traditional projects.
.Flamed slate Stone: a flamed surface is achieved by subjecting the stone to the high temperature flame of a torch and burning most of the carbon content, leaving textured quartzites with gentle coloration.
.Hydro slate stone: this finish is achieved by putting a high-pressure water jet on the surface of the slate stone. The biggest advantage of hydro finish, the natural color remains the same.
.Lappato slate stone: to get this surface finish we start the abrasive brushes with 26 number then 60 then 80 then 120 then 240 then 320 and finally 500 here the leathering process is stopped, for getting lappato finish we apply 3 more special abrasive brush number 800 then 1500 then finally 3000 after this the surface becomes a combination of matt and gloss, it is less reflective and has a granular worn-out but highly elegant look. The surface is non slippery and easy to clean.
